Dear HOMGrund,

To exclude low battery problem, would you try the solutions below first ?

(a) If using a USB port in the front of your computer, try a USB port in the back.
Front USB port is often non-powered.
(b) Try another Computer to see if the problem is the same.
(c) Keep the AC adaptor plugged to avoid any low battery.

This is ongoing issue with this device, and a pretty major one at that, in my opinion. I've written several posts on this and Dr. Vosonic seems to believe that using different USB ports on the computer may help. Also, he said to have the device powered up before plugging it into the computer.

Other folks claim that if you power on the device AND open up a folder, like the music or picture folder, and THEN plug it in, it will be recognized.

I have various success with these measures. My IBM T43 laptop seems to like the device when I plug in both USB cables that came with the 8860 into the 2 main usb ports and not through any other hub. Then, I have to wait, and I mean, WAIT for a good minute. It seems to pop up the drive eventually.

One interesting thing that does seem to happen on almost everyone's computers is that when you plug in the 8860, the computer will have a "portable device" on Vista, or a "digital camera" on xp.

I don't know, the whole thing is quite a mess and definitely needs some kind of firmware fix.

Joel

I have the problem, that my desktop PC (Asus K8N mainboard) does not recognize the device at all. Our Notebook does. The PC at Office does either but pops up (e.g. when an application loads ) with

"Exception Processing Message c000013 Parameters ...."

Is there a workaround on any of these problems?
Will there be an updated firmware ?
Will I have to send it back?

with kind regards
HOMGrund

I said " May it's limited of hardware". It's my guess .

I knew that :
vosonic said:
Q:1. VP8860 can play HiDef video file MPEG4-AVC/H.264?
A: VP8860 can support MPEG4 videos but not H.264 format files.
Due the hardware and software limitation, it is not possible for VP8860 to support the H.264 format file

Hi, I replaced the 40GB HDD with a 120GB HDD and formatted it to FAT 32. Now when I turn on the device it says partition not found. I can't get it to recognize the SD card either. I have the latest firmware, version OA-1.2.6 and hardware version OA-2.2.0
Is the 120gb drive too big?

EDIT I have solved this now. I emailed Vosonic and they sent the latest software.

Hi,

"May it's limited of hardware."

But is it really limited? Maybe it´s possible in future to get upgrades for that files.
If not possible, i´de like to buy VP6230i for storage files in vacation, otherwise i´de like to buy VP8860.

regards, Globe-trotter

The avc/h.264 is very high compression ratio.
May it's limited of hardware.

What are you expect from MR.vosonic to say?
